Multiple Mechanisms of Meiotic Recombination
نویسنده
چکیده
In this issue, reveal that different meiotic recombination mechanisms predominate in fission yeast and budding yeast. Budding yeast usually form crossover recombinants through double Holliday junctions, whereas fission yeast unexpectedly appear to form crossover recombinants through single junctions.

O-36: Genome Haplotyping and Detection of Meiotic Homologous Recombination Sites in Single Cells, A Generic Method for Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis
Background: Haplotyping is invaluable not only to identify genetic variants underlying a disease or trait, but also to study evolution and population history as well as meiotic and mitotic recombination processes. Current genome-wide haplotyping methods rely on genomic DNA that is extracted from a large number of cells. Thus far random allele drop out and preferential amplification artifacts of...
متن کاملInitiation of Ageing Process by Meiotic and Mitotic Recombination within the Ribosomal DNA Genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
In the budding yeast of Saccharomyces cerevisiae the tandem repeated of rDNA genes are located onchromosome XII, which is in the nucleolus. There are different types of proteins in the nucleoluskeleton, silencing proteins have got important role in nucleolus. It is shown that meiotic recombination between nonsister chromatids in the rDNA genes are stronglysuppressed, and s...
متن کاملPhosphorylation-Independent Regulation of Atf1-Promoted Meiotic Recombination by Stress-Activated, p38 Kinase Spc1 of Fission Yeast
BACKGROUND Stress-activated protein kinases regulate multiple cellular responses to a wide variety of intracellular and extracellular conditions. The conserved, multifunctional, ATF/CREB protein Atf1 (Mts1, Gad7) of fission yeast binds to CRE-like (M26) DNA sites. Atf1 is phosphorylated by the conserved, p38-family kinase Spc1 (Sty1, Phh1) and is required for many Spc1-dependent stress response...
متن کاملThe Saccharomyces cerevisiae RDN1 locus is sequestered from interchromosomal meiotic ectopic recombination in a SIR2-dependent manner.
Meiotic ectopic recombination occurs at similar frequencies among many sites in the yeast genome, suggesting that all loci are similarly accessible to homology searching. In contrast, we found that his3 sequences integrated in the RDN1 (rDNA) locus were unusually poor participants in meiotic recombination with his3 sequences at other sites. We show that the low rate of meiotic ectopic recombina...
متن کاملRelationship of recombination patterns and maternal age among non-disjoined chromosomes 21.
Advancing maternal age has long been identified as the primary risk factor for human chromosome trisomy. More recently, altered patterns of meiotic recombination have been found to be associated with non-disjunction. We have used trisomy 21 as a model for human non-disjunction that occurs during the formation of oocytes to understand the role of maternal age and recombination. Patterns of recom...
